Bullying
Statement on Bullying:
Creative Inspiration Journey School (CIJS) aims to create an atmosphere in which Scholars feel safe and comfortable to meet their academic and emotional challenges in productive ways. CIJS is committed to protecting Scholars from bullying and other forms of cruelty.
CIJS also believes that children who bully do so out of their own pain and inability to manage it. With the goal of teaching children to meet their own emotional needs without inflicting damage on others the administrative team will work with parents, staff, and Scholars on conflict resolution to resolve bullying to the extent possible.
Teachers, and staff at CIJS will remain actively engaged with Scholars to systematically prevent bullying from occurring. When bullying style behavior does occur, the Scholars involved will be separated whenever possible, the FLDOE Bullying Prevention Plan will be initiated, our Guidance Counselor will become involved, and every effort will be made to help the Students find a peaceful and productive resolution to their conflict.
What Constitutes Bullying?
Bullying is unwanted aggressive behavior among school-aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. To be considered bullying the behavior typically is REPEATEDLY directed toward the SAME student(s).
Osceola Matrix of Infractions for Bullying BUL* – The act of systematically and chronically inflicting physical hurt or psychological distress on one or more students or employees, that is severe or pervasive enough to create an intimidating, hostile, or offensive educational environment; or unreasonably interferes with the individual’s school performance or participation. Bullying includes instances of cyberbullying.

Discipline, Behavior, Code of Conduct, & Involuntary Dismissal
Discipline, Behavior, & Code of Conduct
The governing board of Creative Inspiration Journey School (CIJS), in conjunction with SMART Management works hard to develop a positive relationship between the teacher and Scholar. CIJS believes that the golden rule for engaging students is to create learning activities which strengthen student participation behaviorally, emotionally, and cognitively, and then discipline problems are minimal. If problem behavior does occur, CIJS begins with a positive approach if possible. CIJS believes the purpose of discipline is to teach self-discipline, and that discipline should rely on inductive methods of explanation, reinforcement and modeling.
The CIJS Discipline, Behavior Interventions, & Student Code of Conduct is reinforced by the School District of Osceola County (SDOC) Code of Student Conduct, SDOC Matrix of Infractions, and SDOC Board Policy 9.63 (Civility and Orderly Conduct).
This policy applies to every Scholar who is enrolled at CIJS and shall be in effect on school property where teachers and school administrations have jurisdiction over students. This policy also remains in effect while at a sponsored activity that takes place on or off the school property and shall apply at any time or place that conduct conflicts with the or obstructs the mission or operation of CIJS or the safety or welfare of other students and/or employees.

Rights under FERPA
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords parents and students who are 18 years of age or older (“eligible students”) certain rights with respect to the student’s education records. These rights are:
- The right to inspect and review the student’s education records within 45 days after the day the Creative Inspiration Journey School (“School”) receives a request for access. Parents or eligible students who wish to inspect their child’s or their education records should submit to the school principal a written request that identifies the records they wish to inspect. The school official will make arrangements for access and notify the parent or eligible student of the time and place where the records may be inspected.
- The right to request the amendment of the student’s education records that the parent or eligible student believes are inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy rights under FERPA. Parents or eligible students who wish to ask CIJS to amend their child’s or their education record should write the school principal, clearly identify the part of the record they want changed, and specify why it should be changed. If the school decides not to amend the record as requested by the parent or eligible student, the school will notify the parent or eligible student of the decision and of their right to a hearing regarding the request for amendment.
Additional information regarding the hearing procedures will be provided to the parent or eligible student when notified of the right to a hearing.
- The right to provide written consent before the school discloses personally identifiable information (PII) from the student’s education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.
One exception, which permits disclosure without consent, is disclosure to school officials with legitimate educational interests. The criteria for determining who constitutes a school official and what constitutes a legitimate educational interest must be set forth in the school’s or school district’s annual notification for FERPA rights. A school official typically includes a person employed by the school or school district as an administrator, supervisor, instructor, or support staff member (including health or medical staff and law enforcement unit personnel) or a person serving on the school board. A school official also may include a volunteer, contractor, or consultant who, while not employed by the school, performs an institutional service or function for which the school would otherwise use its own employees and who is under the direct control of the school with respect to the use and maintenance of PII from education records, such as an attorney, auditor, medical consultant, or therapist; a parent or student volunteering to serve on an official committee, such as a disciplinary or grievance committee; or a parent, student, or other volunteer assisting another school official in performing his or her tasks. A school official typically has a legitimate educational interest if the official needs to review an education record in order to fulfill his or her professional responsibility.
upon request, the school discloses education records without consent to officials of another school or school district in which a student seeks or intends to enroll, or is already enrolled if the disclosure is for purposes of the student’s enrollment or transfer.
- The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by CIJS to comply with the requirements of FERPA. The name and address of the Office that administers FERPA are:
Family Policy Compliance Office
U.S. Department of Education
400 Maryland Avenue, SW
Washington, DC 20202
Parents and eligible students are notified annually on the CIJS website.
Instructional Continuity Plan
The Florida Department of Education's (FDOE) Instructional Continuity Framework is a set of ten components that guide Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) and charter schools in developing their Instructional Continuity Plans (ICPs). The goal of the ICP is to ensure that learning and instructional support services continue during emergencies or pandemics.
School Accountability Report
The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) develops School Accountability Reports (SARs) that assign grades to schools as an easily understandable way to measure the performance of a school. Parents and the general public can use the school grade and its components to understand how well each school is serving its students. Schools are graded A, B, C, D, or F. Each school is graded based on the components for which it has sufficient data. Schools must test at least 95% of their students.
